The cathedral’s seniors are a diverse, stimulating community of seasoned people who are aging with grace. We gather to learn, grow, stay healthy and enjoy each other’s company – and everyone is welcome at our gatherings.
Once or twice a year, we enjoy a retreat in beautiful Healdsburg. In addition to beautiful scenery, our group will enjoy a program that includes arts and crafts, social hour, Holy Eucharist, Compline, meditation, music, walks on the labyrinth and pastoral appointments.
All are welcome; RSVP is required. Transportation to and from the cathedral is included in the attendance costs. Learn more about our March 2019 spring retreat.
Community Days occur on the fourth Thursday of each month (unless affected by a holiday) from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Enjoy a continental breakfast from 10 to 10:30 a.m., followed by Bible study and a topical presentation. At 12:10 p.m., we gather for Holy Eucharist in the Chapel of Grace and then return to the Dining Room for a catered luncheon. We conclude our day with the sharing of senior grocery care bags.
Most senior events take place in the Chapter House Dining Room. Trained medical staff are available at these events to assist with basic health assessment and referrals.
Special guest speaker Curtis Speck, back by popular demand, will present Project Grace, Focus Memory and Migration in which he invites us “to become aware of one’s body memory including physical, mind and spirit” by examining a move we do daily: standing up. In relation to this year’s cathedral theme of The Body, Curtis will lead an interactive presentation that includes gentle body movement as well as an engaging group discussion. For those with difficulty standing, explorations in movement of arms and wrists will be focused on.
The Rev. Canon Nina Pickerrell is honored to support the senior program. She would love to hear from you with any questions, suggestions or to reserve a spot on the next retreat. Please find her contact information below.
