Classes for Adults

Education and exploration are at the heart of our mission. Examining our faith and exploring its applications in the world is always timely, especially so with all that’s going on in our world. Be part of our mission through one or more of our online groups and events. We invite you to take a class or attend a lecture or program with our diverse, open-minded community and see where it takes you.

Grace Groups resume April 1! These facilitated small groups (of no more than 8 people) will gather one or more times a month (in person or online) for three months. At the end of the quarter, groups with openings who wish to continue meeting together will invite new members and continue for another quarter. Groups are limited to 8 participants each. If you can’t register for this round of Grace Groups, your details will be kept on file for future meetings. Once registered, your group facilitator will reach out to work with the group to negotiate a time and location.

We offer enriching book studies and classes in spiritual practices and preparation:

Preparation for Baptism, Preparation or Reception: Our 2024 class for adults begins on February 18. Register here, and learn more about Baptism at Grace Cathedral. Our confirmation class for youth begins on February 25. You can also email Steph McNally, Formation Programs Manager, for more information about youth and adult baptism and confirmation.

4 pm Sunday Book Study on Zoom: This is a self-led discussion group for adult Christian education with rotating member- facilitators. We have multiple series during the year, each approximately 5 to 6 weeks in duration. Some of the authors that we have read include Borg and Crosson, Howard Thurman, Cynthia Bourgeault, Barbara Brown Taylor, C S Lewis, J Phillip Newell, Ilia Delio, Bart Ehrman, and Richard Rohr.

In spring, we will read The Luminous Web: Faith, science and the experience of wonder (starting February 11) and Mystics in Action: Twelve Saints for Today (starting March 17).

Contact Bob White for more information and the Zoom link to join.

Thursday Bible Study: We continued to offer our study of the Bible through reading and discussion on Zoom every Thursday from 11 am to noon, and always welcome additional participants. We read various books of the Bible in their entirety, taking as long as is necessary to explore them fully.

Contact Peter Grace for more information, and see the calendar listing below for the Zoom link.

Comparative Religion: We are offering a series of guided discussions about world religions, considering the tenets of these faiths, their relationship to Christianity, and how pluralism and interfaith dialogue can be occur. This series begins with a pair of discussions on Buddhism, at 1 pm on February 4 and 18.
