High Praise for Jacob’s Dream

Blog|Grace

Our 2016 Artists in Residence artwork opened on Sunday, December 11. The work, Jacob’s Dream: A Luminous Light, is a 47-foot ladder of light that encases the cathedral’s 2016 theme of “Home” in its representation of the pathway between heaven and earth. The installation is the result of collaboration by artists Jim Campbell and Benjamin Bergery, each acclaimed in their own right. Only a few days after its official opening, Jacob’s Dream is being warmly received.

The distinguished Charles Desmarais, art critic at the San Francisco Chronicle, celebrated this special work in an article as “a worthwhile special trip”. Read his story.

KCBS reporter Megan Goldsby described Jacob’s Dream as “a beautiful new art installation” and referenced its significance in the wake of the recent warehouse party fire in Oakland that killed 36 young people.

We invite you to visit the cathedral and see the new exhibit. We hope that Jacob’s Dream will inspire you to reflect on the meaning of home.
