The Philadelphia Eleven: 50th Anniversary
January 25 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Join us for a celebration and commemoration of the history of women priesthood in the Episcopal Church in its 50th anniversary year with a screening of the feature-length documentary The Philadelphia Eleven.
In an act of civil disobedience, a group of women and their supporters organized their ordination to become Episcopal priests in 1974. The Church of the Advocate in Philadelphia welcomed them, but change is no small task. The women are harassed, some lose friends, and others are banned from stepping on church property.
In this film we meet the women who succeeded in building a movement that transformed an age-old institution, paving the way for thousands of women priests in the church today.
Suggested Donation: $15
You are very welcome to join us for Choral Evensong at 5:30 pm beforehand.
