Ash Wednesday Eucharist with Imposition of Ashes (In-Person and Livestream)
February 14 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Ash Wednesday begins the season of Lent, a time of renewal, repentance, and preparation for the Easter feast. Ashes, typically made from dried palm branches from the prior year’s Palm Sunday celebration, are a potent sign of our mortality. In taking stock of the brevity of human life, we also reflect on the areas of our lives that are estranged from God’s presence, and resolve to turn again towards God’s boundless mercy and love. This Eucharist is celebrated in its traditional form found in the 1979 Book of Common Prayer, and sung by the Cathedral Choir of Men and Boys.
The Right Rev. Dr. Marc Handley Andrus, Bishop of California will preside and preach.
When the online version of the service leaflet becomes available, you can view it here.
