Fill-A-Need: August School Supplies Drive

Blog|Tracee Zyla

Grace Cathedral, in tandem with Jewish Family and Community Services East Bay, helped both refugee and local families in need prepare for the upcoming school year by collecting school supplies every Sunday this August. After receiving donations of school supplies and backpacks, students were invited to bring their backpacks up to the altar during the 11 a.m. Choral Eucharist on Sunday, August 27 for the Blessing of the Backpacks.

Local congregant Stan was the man and rented a U-Haul to both pick up and deliver over 100 backpacks full of supplies. When asked for a report on the delivery, Stan observed, “They were really extremely grateful for the school supplies and gave me a tour of their operations. They’re doing some incredible work out of their Walnut Creek offices and are a blessing to a community in need. Grace can feel good to have played a part and know how greatly appreciated our efforts were.”
