Organ Recital by Angela Kraft Cross (In-Person and Livestream)

Join us for an intriguing recital by a Bay Area polymath (organist, composer, teacher, and doctor), and returning alumna of our recital series, Angela Kraft Cross. Her program will include works from the French Romantic canon, as well as several of her own compositions.

Our organ recital series features some of the finest organists playing one of America’s great organs. Grace Cathedral’s 7,466-pipe Aeolian-Skinner instrument, the Charles B. Alexander Memorial Organ (1934), is one of the first and finest American classic-style organs and is among the largest church organs in the West. Experiencing music in our gothic cathedral with its unique acoustics, soaring nave, and jewel-like stained glass windows is a feast for the ears, eyes, and soul. 

Please note there is an admission fee for visitors on Sundays from 1 to 5 pm. Those wishing to attend the organ recital must register in advance to avoid paying the fee. Thank you for your understanding.

Event Details

The concert will also be livestreamed here and on Facebook.  The cathedral will open for seating at 3:30 pm. The entrance to the cathedral is at the top of the Great Steps. The accessible entrance is via the glass doors on Taylor Street or from the cathedral garage. Masks are strongly encouraged inside the cathedral. 

About the Organist

Angela Kraft Cross, AAGO, San Francisco Bay Area organist, pianist and composer, graduated from Oberlin in 1980 with bachelor’s degrees in Physics and Organ Performance. She then earned her Doctor of Medicine degree at Loma Linda University, where she subsequently completed her residency in ophthalmology.

Dr. Kraft Cross has performed extensively internationally. In July 2011, she was a featured recitalist at the SF AGO Region IX Convention. She has released nine solo CD albums, recorded in California, Paris, Lyon and London, most recently Passages on the Journey, her original compositions since 2013, on the historic Great Organ in Methuen. Her organ recordings can be heard on Pipedreams and on Spotify. She has served as the Organist/Artist-in-Residence of the Congregational Church of San Mateo since 1993. Her five books of compositions are published by Lorenz/Sacred Music Press.

In addition to music, Dr. Kraft Cross retired in 2011 from Kaiser and now volunteers as an ophthalmologist at Samaritan House. Dr. Kraft Cross is the founding director of the San Francisco Peninsula Organ Academy, which supports young organists with scholarships on short intensive overseas study trips.
