Choral Evensong (In-Person and Livestream)

September 5 @ 5:30 pm - 6:15 pm

Event Series Event Series (See All)

One of the treasures of the Anglican tradition, Choral Evensong is a service of sung Evening Prayer. The service guides us to lay to rest the concerns of the day and prepare for the coming night. It combines music with readings from scripture, ancient and contemporary prayers, and a brief homily or reflection. The music includes psalms, canticles and an anthem, all sung by the choir, with congregational hymns and an organ prelude and postlude. The beauty of the music is offered to help us set our lives in the light of eternity; the same light which dwelt among us in Jesus, and which now illuminates us by the Spirit. This centuries-old service presents the finest of the Anglican musical tradition and is regularly sung in cathedrals and churches around the world.

Evensong is a service traditionally held near sunset focused on singing psalms, canticles, and prayers, ranging from meditative to jubilant. The Grace Cathedral Choir of Men and Boys sings during our Choral Evensong with an officiant. Join us at this mid-week choral service and experience one of the most beautiful liturgies in the Anglican tradition. (45 minutes)
