We currently offer two different themed tours: Highlights and Behind-the-Scenes. Additional tours will be added soon. Tour schedules are based on docent availability.
As Grace Cathedral is a working church, regular tour schedules are sometimes altered for services and events. We appreciate your understanding.
Guided Tour: Highlights
Enjoy our most comprehensive journey through the main floor of this striking Gothic cathedral. The tour features the cathedral’s history, its place as a San Francisco icon, architecture elements, the Ghiberti Doors, the Interfaith AIDS Chapel, and art from our collection, including works by Keith Haring, David LaChapelle, and Ansel Adams, and 7290 square feet of stained glass from the studios of Gabriel Loire, Charles Jay Connick, and Narcissus Qualgiata.
See the amazing Aeolian-Skinner pipe organ and learn about San Francisco’s history, including the 1906 fire and the founding of the United Nations. Walk one of our two labyrinths to finish your visit.
Expected time: 1 hour
Guided Tour: Behind-The-Scenes
Uncover the secrets of our iconic cathedral on our newest guided tour! Explore hidden passageways and treasures not seen by the public. Climb up almost 100 steps up our South Tower, discovering stunning stained glass from unique vantage points and a panoramic view of San Francisco.
Note: All participants must be 12 years or older, and those 12-17 must be accompanied by an adult. This tour is not recommended for those with a fear of heights or enclosed spaces or those with limited mobility. Be prepared for stair climbing and heights. Sensible footwear is highly recommended.
Expected time: 1 hour plus | Limit of 10 people per tour.
