“Home” for the Holidays

Blog|Grace

The holidays are here! There is so much to do at the cathedral during this special time. From Thanksgiving dinner to Advent fun, meaningful volunteer opportunities and our famous Christmas concerts, there are many ways to come “Home” to Grace Cathedral this season.

Join us for our annual Thanksgiving Dinner. We celebrate this day with a service, social hour and feast. If you’re interested in attending, don’t wait to register. This popular gathering always reaches its capacity of 80.

As part of our exploration of the “Home” theme this year, we are hosting members of the cathedral’s extended family in a special sermon series called “Coming Home for Christmas and Advent.” We look forward to hearing homilies from some of the most respected preachers of our day on Sundays during Advent.

The much-anticipated Advent Sale will be held after the 11 a.m. service on Sundays starting December 4, through December 18. There is still time to sign-up to donate homemade crafts and baked goods. Donations and purchases will provide scholarships for families to attend next year’s Family Retreat.

Sing You A Merry Christmas

Our signature Christmas concert series is fast approaching! With over 10 performances, there is something for everyone to choose from. Sing You A Merry Christmas is an extraordinary journey for children and families led by the toys of St. Nicholas’s workshop. Audience members of all ages will delight as they sing along to beloved holiday carols all the way to the North Pole. The Grace Cathedral Choir of Men and Boys, accompanied by full orchestra, dazzle in A Cathedral Christmas as traditional carols resound in the majestic acoustics of the cathedral. American Bach Soloists returns to perform Handel’s timeless score Messiah. String lovers will be delighted to hear the beauty of this masterpiece in all its glory.

The captivating light installation will be on view starting Sunday, December 11. Join us that day for an opening reception and a special Forum discussion with the artists, during which they will discuss their inspiration for the piece and share their creative process.

As we celebrate the season, we also remember that this time of year is especially difficult for many of our neighbors in San Francisco. There are a number of opportunities to get involved with Grace Gives in the winter months. Help provide necessities and Christmas presents to children, families and individuals who might otherwise go without through one of our two holiday gift drives. Provide hospitality to homeless guests at the Winter Interfaith Shelter by helping cook meals. We are so thankful for your contributions and proud of the work we do together every day.

We warmly welcome visiting friends and family at Grace Cathedral during this Christmas season. We hope your guests will find a spiritual home here while they are away from their own spaces of worship. We look forward to sharing this wonderful time of year with you and your loved ones.
