We currently offer three different themed tours: Highlights, Architecture, and Behind-the-Scenes. Additional tours will be added soon. Tour schedules are based on docent availability.

Guided Tour: Behind the Scenes
Discover fascinating stories, breathtaking architecture, and hidden spaces. Head behind closed doors to glimpse behind-the-scenes passageways and historic rooms and get close to some of our oldest treasures.
Take the elevator to the mezzanine level and Columbarium, normally only accessible by private appointment. Then begin the climb up almost 100 steps in our South Tower. On the way to the top, step through secret doors to witness magnificent views of our stained glass from interior heights. Finally, admire the bird’s eye view of San Francisco and the cathedral from the Observation Level of the tower.
Expected time: 1 hour plus | Limit of 10 people per tour.
Notes before purchasing tickets: All participants must be 12 years or older. Those 12-17 must be accompanied by an adult. This tour is not recommended for those with a fear of heights or enclosed spaces or those with limited mobility. Be prepared for stair climbing and heights. Sensible footwear is highly recommended.
Guided Tour: Highlights
First time touring at Grace Cathedral? Enjoy our most comprehensive journey through the main floor of the church. The Highlights tour features the cathedral’s history, its place as a San Francisco icon, building elements, and art from our collection, including works by Gabriel Loire, Charles Jay Connick, Ansel Adams, Narcissus Qualgiata, Keith Haring, and Lorenzo Ghiberti.

Guided Tour: Architecture
Enjoy an Architecture Tour with one of our docents. The Architecture Tour highlights Grace’s place as the third largest neo-Gothic Cathedral and one of the few poured-in-place concrete cathedrals in the world. Designed by Lewis Hobart in 1927 and built in four distinct stages over 40 years, the building has a rich and interesting history.
