Lucas Meachem In Concert

August 27, 2016

2:00 pm

The internationally acclaimed opera star of SF Opera’s Barber of Seville and Don Giovanni performs a program devoted to songs by Copland, Schumann, Granados and more in the stunning setting of Grace Cathedral. Also in the program will be virtuoso pianist Irina Meachem, harpist Christine Tulis, Kem Stone on keyboard, master tabla player Sahar Pinkham, classical oboist Daniel Celidore and performance poet Neal Grace.

American baritone Lucas Meachem is an internationally sought-after performer whose compelling lyric voice and dramatic interpretations have led him to the most important operatic stages in the US and Europe. He has been hailed by critics for his fluent, lyrical phrasing (San Francisco Chronicle) as well as his natural vocalism and theatricality (Chicago Sun-Times).

The theme of the concert is a celebration of summer through the hauntingly rich sounds of singing and music. Mr. Meachem is the main performer of the concert. Irina Meachem, a virtuouso pianist, accompanies her husband. Between numbers by Mr. Meachem, Christine Tulis plays the harp with sensitivity, mesmerizing the listeners with not only the rapturous notes of her instrument but with her celestial voice. Kem Stone infuses the performance with the dimensionality of his music on the keyboard. Sahar Pinkham, a master tabla player, conjures waves of pulsing energy with every beat. Daniel Celidore, a classical oboist, performs with consummate charm and panache. Neal Grace, a performance poet, begins and ends the concert with his lyrical and alluring poem, Ode To Summer.
