Israeli-Palestinian Memorial Ceremony

May 3, 2022 @ 10:30 am - 11:30 am

Grace Cathedral is honored to join Combatants for Peace as a co-sponsor of a bi-national multi-faith memorial in Israel/Palestine. The world’s largest jointly organized Israeli-Palestinian event, features personal stories of mourning and transformation, art, and music, all laying the foundations for peace.

Israeli Memorial Day, Yom HaZikaron, is a sacred day. Official ceremonies honor only a small portion of the lives lost in the conflict. The Joint Memorial, co-hosted by Combatants for Peace and Parents Circle-Families Forum, transforms this narrative by bringing Palestinians to the Memorial alongside Israelis, to speak and share together in the pain of the “other”. The Joint Memorial Day Ceremony transforms despair into self-reflection, personal responsibility and ultimately hope.

Event Details

The Israeli-Palestinian Memorial Ceremony, hosted by Combatants for Peace, brings together Palestinians, Israelis, and the international community to remember, honor and acknowledge the Nakba, when more than half a million Palestinians were displaced from their homes in 1948. Translated from Arabic as ‘the Catastrophe’, this experience is central to Palestinians’ collective memory and to the history of the wider conflict.
