The Forum with Sukey Bryan: The Art of Climate Change

Sunday, September 23 @ 9:30 am

Grace Cathedral’s Artist in Residence on her residency in the Year of Truth
About the conversation

For 2018, our theme is truth, and for her residency, Bryan has created original works inspired by the resonance between the cycles and elements in nature and human experience. Her installations, outside and inside the cathedral, were timed to Earth Day, Pentecost, National Ocean Month, and in September, the Global Climate Action Summit convened by Governor Jerry Brown. In this conversation with Abbott Bailey, Canon to the Ordinary, Bryan talks about her inspirations and her work.

About the guest

Bryan has a BA in Fine Arts and English from Yale University and an MFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art. She received a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts to paint a series of works based on the environments of Iceland and the Outer Hebrides of Scotland. She has been an artist in residence at Denali National Park and Preserve in Alaska. Bryan has also created public art installations for Stanford University. She is married to physician and scientist Jim Brooks, has two sons and lives in Palo Alto.

About The Forum

The Forum is a series of stimulating conversations about faith and ethics in relation to the important issues of our day. We invite inspiring and illustrious people to sit down for a real conversation with the Forum’s host and with you. Our guests range from artists, inventors and philosophers to pop culturists and elected officials, but the point of The Forum is singular: civil, sophisticated discourse that engages minds and hearts to think in new ways about the world.
