Saint John Coltrane Invitational Sonic Ascension Day Jazz Vespers

Grace Cathedral is pleased to host St. John Coltrane A. O. Church for this celebration of the 56th year of Ascension of Saint John Coltrane and the 64th year of Ascension of Our Lady Day. Inspired by Duke Ellington’s “Concert of Sacred Music” performed at Grace Cathedral in 1965, the theme remains, as St. John Coltrane said it: “The love that holds the universe together.”By proclamation of former Mayor Willie Brown and Mayor London Breed, July 20 is Saint John Coltrane Day in the city of San Francisco.
Professor Nick Baham, author of The Coltrane Church: Apostles of Sound, Agents of Social Justice, will be the featured speaker for the evening!
