About the organist

Christopher Keady is the Assistant Director of Music at Grace Cathedral, serving as principal accompanist for the Cathedral Choir of Men and Boys. He was raised in Eugene, Oregon and earned a bachelor’s degree from Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon, where he studied organ with Dr. Lee Garrett. He subsequently served as Assistant Organist at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Portland; during that time he accompanied the cathedral choir in a UK residency at Bristol Cathedral and was course organist for the first Pacific Northwest RSCM Training Course. Keady received his Master’s Degree in Organ Performance at the Institute of Sacred Music at Yale University, having studied with Martin Jean and served as Sacred Music Intern at the Brick Presbyterian Church in New York City. He and his husband Dan live in Richmond.

Christopher John Pharo began formal organ study under Carolyn Crossland in his hometown, Kinston, NC, and later under Andrew Scanlon and David Arcus at East Carolina University where he is pursuing his undergraduate degree in Sacred Music. Pharo has served as Organ Scholar for the Royal School of Church Music Carolina Course (2011) based in Raleigh, NC, and worked as Proctor for the RSCM Charlotte Course (2012-18). He has been featured in numerous recital programs throughout North Carolina and Mississippi, and was invited to be the 2021 Featured Organ Scholar for the Nantucket Community Music Center’s Annual Organ Crawl in Nantucket, MA. Most recently, he was selected as the 2022-23 Association of Anglican Musicians Gerre Hancock Intern for Sacred Music at Grace Cathedral. This opportunity allows him to study liturgy and music with the excellent cathedral staff and the Grace Cathedral Choir of Men and Boys.
