Grace Cathedral
Evensong with Installation of Canons (In-Person and Livestream)
January 30 @ 5:30 pm - 6:15 pm
Join us for a special evensong as we install Louise Gregory as Canon for Development and Rebecca Nestle as Canon for Events and Cultural Programs.
Today the cathedral choir brings back to its repertoire a piece of music written for Grace Cathedral. Stephen Paulus’s Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis was commissioned in 2008 by Donald Runnicles, then conductor of the SF Opera, to honor Dean Alan Jones. Paulus was one of great American composers of his generation, winning fellowships from the NEA and Guggenheim foundations, as well as a Grammy for best classical composition.
Evensong is a service traditionally held near sunset focused on singing psalms, canticles, and prayers, ranging from meditative to jubilant. The Grace Cathedral Choir of Men and Boys sings during our Choral Evensong with an officiant. Join us at this mid-week choral service and experience one of the most beautiful liturgies in the Anglican tradition. (45 minutes)
Event Details
The entrance to the cathedral is at the top of the Great Steps. The accessible entrance is via the glass doors on Taylor Street or from the cathedral garage. Masks are strongly encouraged inside the cathedral.
When the online version of the service leaflet becomes available, you can view it here.
