Grace Cathedral
Connick Stained Glass Windows Presentation
October 13 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm
Grace Cathedral is a visual encyclopedia of Judeo-Christian belief and practice, portraying a richly symbolic iconography in architecture, sculpture, murals, paintings, needlepoint and furnishings, and stained glass windows. The windows are by five artists: three quarters of them are by Connick Studios of Boston, the largest such assemblage west of the Rockies (4110 sq. ft.).
Peter Cormack is a historian and curator whose interest in the Arts & Crafts Movement spans some forty years. In his new book Charles J. Connick: America’s Visionary Stained Glass Artist, he gives the first comprehensive account of America’s most innovative and influential stained glass artist working in the first half of the twentieth century.
Join us for a free presentation by Cormack on the dynamic trajectory of Connick’s artistic development and the diverse cultural influences that shaped Connick’s art, showcasing stained glass works found throughout some of the most spectacular buildings in the United States, including New York’s St. John the Divine Cathedral and San Francisco’s Grace Cathedral.
The presentation will take place in the Chapel of Grace, surrounded by Connick masterpieces of stained glass.
