Christmas in October: World Tree of Hope at Grace Cathedral
Friday, October 9 - Sunday, October 18
Grace Cathedral is partnering with Rainbow World Fund again this year to decorate the most unique holiday tree in the world (see below for how you can help!). The tree will be at Grace Cathedral through January 6, 2021. We hope we will be able to open for the public to visit, but as yet there is no timeline. We’re still excited to host the tree in the cathedral and share it online during the Christmas season.
The World Tree of Hope is the largest origami holiday tree in the world, decorated with over 17,000 origami cranes and stars, each hand-folded and inscribed with wishes, hopes and dreams for the future of the world. The wishes come from people of all ages, all faiths and all walks of life. Since 2006, Rainbow World Fund has presented the World Tree of Hope as a symbol of global unity. Rainbow World Fund’s mission is to promote peace, unity and hope by leading the LGBTQ movement in participating in humanitarian relief efforts. RWF’s aid work creates visibility, builds bridges and demonstrates LGBTQ compassion and concern for the world.
Volunteer to help trim the tree
Volunteers are meeting now through October 18. You must register in advance. Click here to register. Let RWF know the dates and times that you are available and please sign up for a 3- or 4-hour shift if you can. Ages 12-99 welcome. The cathedral is closed to the public. You will receive instructions on how to enter with confirmation of your day and time. Due to COVID-19 we will be working with small teams of volunteers, and following social distancing and mask wearing protocols.
Would you like your wish to be included?
Do you have a wish for the world? Send us your wish and we’ll turn it into an origami crane and put it on the World Tree of Hope. It’s free and open to all.
