Choral Evensong for Fire Relief (In-Person and Livestream)

January 23 @ 5:30 pm - 6:15 pm

Event Series Event Series (See All)

Disasters have the power to isolate and divide, and simultaneously, to gather and unite. We choose to gather.

In the midst of the week of Prayer for Christian Unity, join cathedral and neighbors from other Christian traditions for Choral Evensong, with particular focus on the fires in Los Angeles, those most impacted, and just recovery for community and the earth. Immediately following evensong, clergy will be available for personal prayers for healing and concern.

Today the Choir of Men and Boys will sing Edward Elgar’s classic anthem, “The spirit of the Lord.” The highly dramatic music is like a miniature opera, and shows off the full orchestral possibilities of the cathedral organ. The work is great fun to sing and features a seemingly endless supply of gorgeous melodies.

Evensong is a service traditionally held near sunset focused on singing psalms, canticles, and prayers, ranging from meditative to jubilant. The Grace Cathedral Choir of Men and Boys sings during our Choral Evensong with an officiant. Join us at this mid-week choral service and experience one of the most beautiful liturgies in the Anglican tradition. (45 minutes)
