Grace Cathedral
We are buzzing with excitement about the recent article in The New York Times about Grace Cathedral! Grace is known as a welcoming and progressive working Episcopal cathedral, and this article elevated awareness to a worldwide audience of how we connect with our community through welcoming religious practices, innovative programming and cultural membership.
As one in a series of articles about how America defines itself one place at a time, the piece, by the NYT Regional Correspondent, Heather Knight, explores how in San Francisco, a city that loves the new, many residents are flocking to an “old cathedral.”
What’s driving this phenomenon? There is a desire for community and connection in a city where remote work has left many feeling lonely. Grace Cathedral is embracing the unconventional, welcoming people of all beliefs and backgrounds with open arms and helping them connect.
While Grace Cathedral maintains its role as a place of prayer for all, with religious services held regularly onsite and available on livestream, we have opened our doors to our stunning Gothic church in more non-traditional ways. Grace is now the place to be for art, music, yoga, and community.
Knight calls out the cathedral’s innovative program, GraceArts, which has become a focal point for our arts and cultural programs, with its museum-like membership model. Anyone can join GraceArts and then enjoy benefits that connect to yoga, sound baths, guided tours, concerts, dance performances, and even trapeze artists–all bringing people together in our vibrant space.
Our beloved church is flourishing, inspiring other cathedrals to follow its lead and find new ways to connect with their communities. Grace Cathedral shines brighter than ever, a beacon of joy and community in the heart of San Francisco!
