From the Archives: Remembering MLK And Bishop Pike at Grace
Blog|Joann Dethman
Even during this time of great challenge, love, peace, hope and the arts live on at Grace. We’re sharing beautiful moments from our archives to remind us of the strength and joy in our community.
As part of the Festival of Grace, Bishop James Pike invited Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to visit and preach at Grace Cathedral in 1965 to mark the completion and consecration of the cathedral. On March 28, 1965, the fourth Sunday of Lent, Dr. King spoke to a crowd of 5,000, most of them African American.
“We’re challenged to work with renewed vigor, with passionate determination, to make brotherhood a reality.” – Dr. King
We at Grace acknowledge that this time is a time for love to abound, to be grounded in our faith and be present for ourselves and those around us. As we move through uncertainties together, please join the Grace community online. Watch Dr. King’s sermon via these links or below. Part 1 and Part 2.
