Happy First Anniversary to our Dean!

Blog|Grace

One year ago this week, Grace Cathedral’s new dean arrived for work. It has been a year full of blessings and accomplishment since the Very Rev. Dr. Malcolm Clemens Young took up the call to be the Ninth Dean of the cathedral. We launched a new strategic plan that renews the cathedral’s historical focus on social justice. Malcolm has held Town Halls and led book discussions on how the cathedral can better service the city and the world, and he writes a regular op-ed column for the San Francisco Examiner. Being part of and ministering to the yoga community is very important to him, and you can often find the dean practicing with the Tuesday night yoga class. The cathedral has been the setting for sacred jazz, astonishing plays, cutting-edge light and sound performance art and even a rave in the past year, in keeping with the commitment of the dean’s strategic plan to the arts as an invitation to divine inspiration. Even while accomplishing all of this in his first year, Malcolm still finds a little time for his favorite hobby, surfing.

Happy First Anniversary, Malcolm. We look forward to continuing to serve with joy and with you, and we’re stoked to see you keep ripping.
