For 30 years on Nob Hill, Nelson Chick has walked his dogs at dusk and wondered why Grace Cathedral did not illuminate its enormous stained-glass window.
Then one Monday evening in late November he came to Huntington Park, and was stunned by what he saw across the street. Above the front door of the dark Gothic church was the intricate and abstract pattern, back-lit by a powerful spotlight that sent light in red, orange, amber, turquoise, white, blue and violet out across the hilltop park.
