The Dean and Chapter of Grace Cathedral

The Dean of Grace Cathedral - The Very Reverend Alan Jones
The Dean is responsible for the administration of the Cathedral and has
complete oversight of all its affairs. The Dean represents the Cathedral
to the community and to the world at large. The Dean works directly with
the Cathedral's Board of Trustees in setting overall policy and in
fundraising. The Dean sets the direction and vision for the Cathedral
and is its primary voice in preaching and teaching, and in the direction
of liturgy.
Canon Pastor - The Reverend Mary E. Haddad
The Canon Pastor is the head of the Office of the Congregation, which is
responsible for spiritual formation, education, outreach, and pastoral
care. The Canon Pastor, along with clergy and lay staff, provides
spiritual guidance and practical support for the myriad programs that
nurture, educate, and enrich the community. She also works closely with
the Congregation Council. The Office of the Congregation publishes Grace
Notes, coordinates volunteers, and actively welcomes and incorporates
newcomers into the Cathedral community. The Vice-Dean acts for the Dean
in his absence.
Canon Sacrist - Ms. Kathryn Kirkpatrick
The Canon Sacrist has overall responsibility for the fabric of the cathedral, that is, the maintenance of its buildings and grounds. Vergers make all the necessary preparations for services and participate in services. Together, the vergers and sextons maintain the buildings and provide setup and cleanup for events. The Canon Sacrist also maintains the cathedral's master calendar. This office handles administration of weddings and the cathedral columbarium.
Canon Headmaster - Mr. Michael Ferreboeuf
The Canon Headmaster leads the Cathedral School for Boys, a vital part
of the life and ministry of the Cathedral church. The school occupies
classrooms in its own building on the Close as well as in the Crypt of
the Cathedral, conducts school chapel services in the Cathedral four
days a week, and provides the choristers of the Cathedral Choir. The
Cathedral School for Boys operates independently of the Cathedral
administration with its own Board of Trustees.
Canon Precentor - The Reverend Mark E. Stanger
The Canon Precentor is responsible for the planning and direction of
Cathedral liturgies and special services. He works closely with the
Vergers, other clergy, and lay people who serve in the liturgical
ministry of Grace Cathedral.
Canon for Finance - Ms. Lori Coleman
The Canon for Finance is responsible for all aspects of the Cathedral
budget, both in its preparation and in maintaining oversight of
expenditures. She supervises the accounting staff of the Business Office
and is the Chapter liaison to the trustee finance and investment committees.
Canon for Administration - Mr. Bruce Bearden
The Canon for Administration is responsible for human resources, information systems, community events, and the gift shop. Community events is focused on the utilization of the cathedral by appropriate groups for concerts and other gatherings. The gift shop is managed under a third party agreement and the Canon for Administration is the cathedral liaison.
Canon Director of Music - Dr. Jeffrey Smith
The Canon Director of Music oversees all the musical activities of the cathedral. Major responsibilities include the training and preparation of the Cathedral Choir and the Cathedral Singers. The Canon Director of Music is a member of the faculty of the Cathedral School for Boys, which supplies the choristers of the choir. Cathedral organists provide music for cathedral services, including a large number of weddings and funerals each year, as well as carrying out an active program of recitals and concerts in the community and nationwide.
Canon for Development - Corty Fengler
The Canon for Development and the Development staff are responsible for
ensuring that sufficient funds are raised through the Annual Fund and
other special projects to operate the Cathedral's ministries and
programs. The Office of Development works closely with the Board of
Trustees and all departments in the Cathedral to produce fund raising
events and achieve all Annual Fund goals.
