Lay ministers provide two monthly worship services at the Nob Hill Health Care Center and visit residents of that community individually. Trained volunteers visit those confined to their homes to offer support and companionship. Educational forums and volunteer training are available.

This ministry of presence at the San Francisco County Jail includes providing two worship services per month, and participating in a book reading project for children whose mothers are incarcerated. Volunteers must pass a screening procedure and will be trained.

The Cathedral contributes annually to the Mayor's Interfaith Feeding Program, which houses and feeds homeless men during the winter. Volunteers help with shopping, preparation, and serving of meals during a one-week period in the winter.
