Renowned visual artist and 2013 Artist in Residence Anne Patterson collaborates with composer and conductor (and former Grace Cathedral chorister) Paul Haas for a dazzling audio-visual experience, combining a video and art installation, a world-premiere composition, Grace Cathedral's Choir of Men and Boys, 10-piece instrumental ensemble, and the Aeolian-Skinner pipe organ.
The video below is a rendered preview of the concert.
I. Here I am!
Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in. (Revelation 3:20)
For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made. (Psalm 139:13-14)
III. Arise, My Darling
Show me, Lord, my life’s end and the number of my days; let me know how fleeting my life is. (Psalm 39:4)
Arise, my darling, my beautiful one, come with me.
See! The winter is past; the rains are over and gone.
Flowers appear on the earth; the season of singing has come, the cooing of doves is heard in our land.
The fig tree forms its early fruit; the blossoming vines spread their fragrance. Arise, come, my darling; my beautiful one, come with me.
(Song of Solomon 2:10-13)
V. Fantasy on "Lo, How a Rose E'er Blooming"
Lift up your heads, you gates; be lifted up, you ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. (Psalm 24:7)
Out of the depths I cry to thee, O Lord!
Lord, hear my voice! (Psalm 130:1-2)
VI. Out of the Depths
When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dreamed. (Psalm 126:1)
And he dreamed, and behold, there was a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven. And behold, the angels of God were ascending and descending on it! And behold, the Lord stood above it and said, "I am the Lord, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac; the land on which you lie, I will give it to you and to your descendants.” (Genesis 28:12-13)
VII. Jacob's Ladder
The Lord is my shepherd;
I shall not want.
He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside the still waters.
He restores my soul;
He leads me in the paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil;
For You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You anoint my head with oil;
My cup runs over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
All the days of my life;
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord
Forever. (Psalm 23)
VIII. Psalm 23
The grasslands of the wilderness overflow;
the hills are clothed with gladness.
The meadows are covered with flocks,
and the valleys are mantled with grain;
they shout for joy and sing. (Psalm 65:12-13)
For now we see only a reflection
as in a mirror;
then we shall see face to face.
Now I know in part;
then I shall know fully,
even as I am fully known. (1 Letter to the Corinthians 13:12)
